In the prayer room we use a model of prayer called, "Harp & Bowl" that uses music and singing to facilitate extended time periods of prayer. The name, "Harp & Bowl" is taken from a scripture in Revelation 5:8, "8 When He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each one holding a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints."
Stages of the Harp & Bowl Prayer Model
Harp & Bowl Prayer
Stage 1 - Corporate Worship

-
We begin each cycle of prayer with a time corporate worship involving music & singing.

Stage 2 - Spontaneous Singing

-
Our worship leader will invite the room to lift their own song to God. During this time all of our singers will spontaneously sing all at once to God. Those in the room that are participating in the prayer meeting are encouraged to lift their own song up as well.
-
We also invite everyone in the room to sing and pray in their prayer language during this period of time. (We're singing to God not man so no interpretation is required).

Stage 3 - Develop a Biblical Passage Through Antiphonal (Responsive) Praying

-
A prayer leader will come up on the microphone and read a biblical passage and proceed to lead the room in a prayer over a topic based on that particular scripture. The musicians will continue to play their instruments in the background.
-
After the prayer leader finishes their prayer the singers on stage will begin to take turns and sing short & concise prayers further developing the topic and scripture. This is the antiphonal (responsive) stage of the model.
-
During this time we invite everyone in the room to sing / pray simple prayers of agreement out loud
-
-
After about a minute or so of this antiphonal stage one of the singers will come up with a chorus that summarizes what we've been singing and praying about. We invite everyone in the room to join in by singing the chorus.
